Introduction

As a freelance web developer, I’ve had the privilege of working with businesses of all sizes, creating bespoke websites that help them grow. But every so often, an opportunity comes along to give something back to the community that means so much to me. That’s why I was delighted to donate and launch a brand-new website for Ampthill Cultural Events to help promote their inaugural event, Ampthill Big Tent Weekend.

Supporting Local Culture with a Modern Website

Ampthill Big Tent Weekend is a fantastic event that brings people together through live music, entertainment, and cultural experiences. When I learned that the organisers needed a professional website to showcase the event and facilitate ticket sales, I jumped at the chance to help.

The aim was to create an engaging, easy-to-navigate website that would reflect the vibrancy of the event while ensuring visitors could quickly access key information and book their tickets online.

The Tech Behind the Website

I built the website using WordPress, Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), and Bootstrap, ensuring a fully dynamic, mobile-friendly experience.

Key features include:

  • Mobile-First Design – Since many visitors will access the site from their phones, the design was crafted from a mobile-first perspective, ensuring smooth usability on all devices.
  • Inspired by the Official Event Flyer – The website’s look and feel were based on the promotional flyer, creating a seamless brand identity across both digital and print materials.
  • Integrated Ticketing System – Rather than building a complex e-commerce solution, the site utilises external ticket purchasing links via TryBooking.com, making the process simple and cost-effective for the organisers.

Why Community Projects Matter

I feel incredibly lucky to have the skills and experience to build powerful websites, and being able to use those skills to support local community initiatives is something I’m really passionate about. Ampthill is a town full of creativity, and I’m proud to play a small role in helping events like the Big Tent Weekend reach a wider audience.

If you’re part of a community group, charity, or local organisation that needs a professional online presence, I’d love to help! Whether it’s a brand-new website or a refresh of an existing one, I can create something that works for your needs and budget.
